Back in Brisbane
Steve's Report: Well, the trip home was eventful and invoved the RACQ and the NRMA but we got here. The canopy on the ute was a well researched decision and the three bar set up is perfect for kayak carrying. Opposite Lock were the choice at the time and Greg Browne was great with the service we got. It was a stroke of luck that they had a canopy at Springwood (Brisbane) and could take the glass assembly off it. Thanks to Trafalga Top the glass was replaced free of charge - much appreciated. The replacement job was done straight away and I was impressed but the best was yet to come.
The guys would not take any money! It is really quite humbling to get support like this. And Tony and I had an interesting conversation about western properties. It was quite unexpected to find someone so knowledgable in the city. The lesson for anyone who wants accessories for a 4WD? Contact these guys, they will look after you, and they can back up their sales with a lot of stores all over Australia. They certainly believe in old fashioned good service.
Now, before I let Jonathan say anything I want to reflect on the time we had together. For me it has been great. He has been rock solid in some pretty difficult circumstances and I really can't express just how proud I am of him. I can't believe how much we ate some times and the food was always great. We also covered a huge distance from near Bourke to South Australia and saw some fantastic country together. Good luck on your round the world trip and don't forget to send photos especially of the surfing spots in Mexico. (I don't envy you surfing in Canada, you can have that to yourself.) Finally, to have had you helping out for the past seven weeks is something I will certainly treasure for the rest of my life.
Jonathan's Turn: After an interesting drive back with Steve to complete the change over of support crew, I arrived back in Karalee on Friday at midday.
Looking back on the trip, Steve and I shared some quality time and I got to experience some beautiful scenery in Australia’s amazing outback. Along with getting the chance to support Steve and witness him successfully carrying out his journey I also learnt about two of the most famous rivers in Australia and the dreadful state they are currently in. Furthermore, it was enjoyable to see Steve convey his message of sustainability to not only the farmers and everyone he met along the way, but also the children at the schools he spoke at.
Being Steve’s son and knowing his strong and determined character, I always knew he would complete this journey successfully once he set off. He is now at the tail end of the trip and the finish is in sight. If you have been monitoring Steve’s progress on the website, be sure to keep a close eye on things from here as the finish will come around surprisingly quick.
Best of luck to John and Kareen Crocker with their support crew stint.
To Dad,
“KEEP ON TRUCKIN”
You have come along way and the finish is now in sight. It was a pleasure to be involved in the trip and I have no doubt you will succeed to the finish.
